Description of the activity

In his classes for advanced or professional dancers, Tommy develops a practice inspired by a mindful approach to the body through somatic methodologies. This awareness aims to help dancers optimize their expressive and physical skills. However, technique is not neglected. His classes include various exercises that highlight the application of somatic processes in a dynamic and technical context. He likes to focus on spinal mobility, the use of floor work, and the performer's presence through the conscious use of the eyes and decision-making in the interpretation of taught choreographies.

His technical practice is inspired by various contemporary dance techniques he has practiced over the years, as well as methods like Feldenkrais and Alexander Technique. Another source of inspiration that is integral to his focus on the performer's intention and presence comes from years of practicing physical theatre and Tanztheater, as well as various experiences in traditional southern Italian dances such as Pizzica and other tarantellas. Tommy invites participants to rethink the process of listening to their own bodies during movement, questioning and challenging the notion of presence through a somatic and sensitive connection between body and mind. The classes often also consist of rich physical sections made up of guided explorations and contemporary dance material inspired by his diverse experiences in different dance styles, ranging from contemporary to traditional folk dances, for example.
